A fraternity boy is arrested for piracy on the high seas when his suggestive remark to a woman on her boat results in
her swimming to shore in Lake Michigan screaming about an attempted rape. Rep Pennyworth, the lawyer on the case,
suspects it is all a publicity stunt.
In the meantime, at the University of Wisconsin, Professor Melissa Pennyworth becomes involved with two professors
who snipe at each other at an academic conference, which leads to forgery and murder. One of the professors claims
to have a paper which shows that the Pope tried to save people in World War II. Melissa must prove whether the claim
is real and why the professor was killed.
Shoot the Lawyer Twice is a cleverly written, interesting read. It is fast paced with humorous dialogue
and a cast of eccentric characters. The action takes place on a college campus which gives an insight into the
academic scene and its rivalries.
The title is based on the old joke about finding Hitler and Stalin and a lawyer in a room. Here you are with a gun
with only two bullets. What do you do? Check the title for the punch line.
There are several plotlines, which make it interesting but difficult to follow the story.
