The corpse of Paddy Meehan's ex-lover, journalist Terry Hewitt, is found on the countryside near Port of Glasgow.
All signs point to an IRA execution. Terry has willed his house and papers to Paddy, reporter and columnist of
The Daily News. Paddy discounts the IRA connection. Everyone from the Scottish police to the IRA seem intent
on keeping Terry's death a secret. Paddy finds what seems to be a connection with the Irish in New York City. She
vows to find Terry's murderer.
At the same time she is involved in the forthcoming parole of Callum Ogilvie, cousin of her ex-fiance. Callum was
convicted for a child's murder and was one of Paddy's biggest stories. (Field of Blood, also

Paddy is confronted with many issues, including caring for her 5 year old son. With this investigation, she and
her son are threatened. She must get to the bottom of it all before it is too late.
This is a gripping, intricately plotted mystery. It has realistic regional (Scottish) dialogue. Paddy has
developed as a character through her responsibility for being the mother of a five year old son, her relationship
with her family, and her increasing role in the newspaper world. The atmosphere and the spirit of the people are
successfully evoked.
Intense, as well as entertaining, this is a crime fiction work not to be missed.
