Suspense and Sensibility
or, First Impressions Revisited
Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mystery, #2
by Carrie Bebris
This series is a combination of mystery, romance and paranormal. The Darcys are the lead characters, with friends
and family as secondary. Mrs. Darcy has a special friend she seeks out when situations turn paranormal. Mr. Darcy
may see, but chooses not to believe.
In this episode, the Darcys each invite a sister to London for the Season. The goal is to find husbands for
them. Harry Dashwood (relative of the Dashwoods in Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility) takes an interest
in Elizabeth's sister, Kitty. But just when he's ready to commit, he makes a drastic change that leads him down
a path of destruction and loss. A mirror and portrait from his attic might be the answer to his salvation.
The mystery is secondary to the characters and the Regency era. Still, the book is a captivating read. I
could not put it down, I believe, because there is a little of everything - romance, mystery and fantasy. It's
written with the traditional discreet Regency outlook. No sex or profanity, only mentions of the Hell Raiser
Club's behavior. It's well written and a unique look at the lives of Mr and Mrs. Darcy. |
