Twisted Justice
by Patricia Gussin
Laura Nelson, a prominent surgeon, spends most of her life at the hospital. She loves her family and tries to spend
as much time as possible with her five children and husband. She has suspected for some time that she and her
husband Steve, a Tampa Bay newscaster, need to get their lives and their relationship in order. Because they both
have demanding careers, the long and erratic hours are something they have to face and overcome. So she thought.
She didn’t anticipate coming home from a stressful night on the job to find her husband and his co-anchor in an
indiscretion.
Things change dramatically for Laura and her family when she insists that Steve move out, which he does. Kim’s
life is running parallel to Steve’s in that she leaves her abusive boyfriend. When Kim is found murdered in Steve’s
apartment, and Laura is near the body, she is accused of the crime. Working to clear her name and hold on to her
children in the face of Steve’s hostile attitude are difficult. The problem escalates when her youngest son develops
a serious medical condition.
Like the heroine she is, Laura overcomes all obstacles. The fact that she has a hidden stash of money unavailable
to Steve, who wiped out their account, helps.
Twisted Justice is a fast paced, well-plotted story that draws to a satisfying conclusion. The 1978
setting for the novel is certainly different and brings with it parameters for the story. The world was different
thirty years ago and Ms. Gussin uses that to the story’s advantage; indeed the slightly slower pace and less
sophisticated medical and technological advances are essential. |
