Vi Agra Falls:
#24 in the Bed & Breakfast Mysteries
by Mary Daheim
Judith McMonigle Flynn runs the Hillside Manor B&B along with her ex-cop husband, Joe. Judith's mother, the
cantankerous Gertude Grover, lives in a shed converted into an apartment behind the B&B because she refuses to live
under the same roof as Judith's husband Joe. Judith's eccentric cousin and best friend Renie spends a lot of time
at the inn.
Joe's ex-wife Vivian moves back into the neighborhood with her new husband, Billy Buss, who appears to be a good
thirty years younger than Herself (that is Vivian, or Vi as she now wants to be called). This is not good news to
Judith, but soon it becomes worse than she could have ever imagined. At a neighborhood block party, Vi announces
she is going to tear down her house and build a condo. This is not welcome news to the residents living on this
quiet and peaceful cul-de-sac. Following the block party, the body of an unidentified man is found strangled to
death in Vi's back yard, not one-hundred feet from the the B&B.
Even after promising to not get involved in this murder case, Judith sets out to try and figure out who killed
the man nobody knows and why.
Viagra Falls is a fun, fast-paced amateur sleuth. The characters are charming and lots of fun. I feel
that Renie's eccentric behavior went a little too far in this latest of Mary Daheim's Bed and Breakfast Mysteries.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and found the mystery unraveling in it to be well plotted. I found it to be a very
enjoyable book to read. |
