Warning at One
Lois Meade series #8

by Ann Purser

Warning at One, by Ann Purser is a good book, a little bit slow to get into, to get the story’s momentum, but very well written and enjoyable.

Lois Meade is the owner of a cleaning business called "New Brooms."  Business is going well, with new customers being added to the roster everyday, but for Lois, it’s just not enough excitement.

Her passion is sleuthing, or as the British say, "fettering!"

Things are quiet in the small town of Tresham until one night when someone breaks into the local supermarket and, instead of taking money, they take food, and a lot of it!  Everyone at the store is questioned, as the local police feel that it’s an inside job.  This is just the beginning, it turns out, of a long list of crimes about to happen.

Lois’s son, Douglas, moves back to Tresham to escape the rigorous lifestyle that he has been living, hoping that the slow pace of his boyhood town will agree with him.  It turns out a quiet lifestyle is not something that Douglas will experience upon his first night in his rental house.

What happens next is just the tip of the iceberg; it’s how this mystery gets solved that is the real story.  Keep reading, take all of the clues that are presented to you, and see if you can figure out the ending.  My guess is, you will not be able to do that!  Give the book the chance that it deserves, you will be glad that you did.
