Alibi

by Teri Woods

Lance and Jeremy plan to break into a drug lord's stash house. They believe there is only one occupant, but an unexpected partner named Nard catches them in the act. In the ensuing gun battle, the two thieves are shot to death, along with Nard's buddy—accidentally. Nard then kills a young boy and his mother who were innocent witnesses to his crime. When he needs an alibi to protect him fromSimon Shaller, the big drug lord whose stash house this was, Nard appeals to Sticks, an organized crime con man.

Sticks pays $2000 to an African American stripper named Daisy Fothergill to provide Nard with an alibi. Daisy subsequently takes on Reggie Carter as a lover. The smooth-talker soon deserts her when she finds herself pregnant. When Daisy learns that she is providing an alibi for a killer and is questioned by the FBA, she fears for her life and flees for refuge with her family in Murfreesboro, Tennesee.  There she finds a real love but has to return to Philadelphia to testify at Nard's trial.

Alibi is a fast-paced, action-filled page turner.  Daisy is a sympathetic character caught by circumstances beyond her control.  The street language is appropriate to the atmosphere of the story.
