A popular football player is struggling for his life in the hospital. The cause of his illness is eluding the doctors. One of the doctors finds a link to an unknown poison for which they are unable to find an antidote.

Then there is an explosion in the stadium killing three persons. Is the bomb a terrorist act? The Intelligence Terrorist Force moves in and takes over, complicating the investigation for the local authorities.

Dr. Tom Hill, psychologist and profiler, is recovering in the hospital and is trying from there to make sense of the situation. Then there are two more murders are committed using poison, with DCI Carol Jordan attempting to solve them. The situation is complicated by the two detectives' attempts to solve their personal problems. There are many distracting leads before they are able to zero in on the real culprit.

Beneath the Bleeding is a psychological thriller. It is a gripping story with an intricate plot. The writing is smooth. The characters are well-developed, with the book delving into the relationships and the personalities of the characters. The suspense is constant with a surprising solution.
