Kootenai Bay, Idaho is called "Blue Heaven" because so many Los Angeles policemen have retired
there.
Annie and her brother William, aged 12 and 10, on their way to going fishing, witness a
gruesome murder in the woods outside the town. They run when they are spotted by the killers, a
group of LAPD cops who retired to their town 8 years ago, after pulling off a complicated heist
at the Santa Anita racetrack which left a man dead.
The two children are pursued and shot at by the killers, but manage to elude them and finally
find refuge in the barn of rancher Jess Rawlins. They convince Rawlins of the truth of their story.
In the meantime the children's mother, Monica, reports the children missing. An all-out search
is made, with the killers volunteering to help the local authorities. The killers try to convince
Monica that the children are gone for good but she clings to her hope.
Retired California detective Eduardo Villatoro arrives in town to pursue the perpetrators of
the California robbery, now a cold case. It has been his only unsolved case and he is determined
to follow his leads until the case is resolved. His investigation escalates an already uneasy
situation with the murderers. The situation culminates in a fiery confrontation.
Blue Heaven is a cant-put-it-down thriller. It is well written with a cast of complex
characters. It is full of enough twists and surprises to keep the reader in suspense until the end.
Highly recommended.
