Twenty-five year old Gary Goodhew, recently promoted to detective constable in Cambridge
Parkside Station, gets to prove himself when he finds a young woman's body on top of a trash
heap on Midsummer Common. Gary is inclined to be independent and goes his own way in pursuing
his investigation. This does not endear him with his superior officer or his fellow officers.
When another death follows Lorna Spence's murder, it is similar. Gary pursues the case with
brains and determination. He is a workaholic who must pursue every twist.
Cambridge Blue introduces us to a new detective. Gary Goodhew is a refreshing, new
and appealing character. He is clever, intuitive, and persistent. His relationship with his
grandmother is dealt with using humor and delicacy. There are descriptive passages full of
precise detail in which the victim's actions lead to murder.
Bruce uses Cambridge's colorful and historic setting for an excellent background to the story.
Hopefully we will see more of Gary Goodhew in the future.
