Death Message
Detective Inspector Thorne, No. 7

by Mark Billingham

Imagine yourself as a detective investigator who starts receiving pictures of murder victims on your cell phone. What would you do? Detective Investigator Tom Thorne is thrown into this scenario and as he is trying to figure out who could possibly be sending him these pictures, his past comes creeping back into his life. The murder victims and pictures keep coming, so Thorne needs to act quickly before he or a loved one of his is the next victim.

The idea of using today’s technology involving people using their cell phones to send pictures is timely and adds great support to the overall plot of a cop being sent something about murder victims. It adds an aspect to the development of the suspense. Tom Thorne’s character development is likeable and realistic. There is some humor and some typical cop-like mentality of not wanting to be watched or protected. Something like a tough guy mentality.

Death Message is a quick reading, good thriller. It will keep readers turning the pages to find out exactly who the murderer is and to see how Thorne solves the problem that he has been pushed into.
