Detective Frank Callahan has been assigned to investigate the murders of A-list actors in Hollywood.
The killer leaves a defaced copy of one of the victim's films beside the body. Callahan is tough but
is also gay. He goes on a wild trip through Hollywood and its landmarks trying to find the killer. In
addition to this he has to cope with a sadistic fellow cop who is continually badgering him about being
gay. The final confrontations involve a gun fight with the killer and with a brutal fight with his
fellow cop tormentor.
The DVD Murders is an excellent police procedural with its step by step account of the
detective's investigation. There is much discussion about the problems confronting a gay detective in
a heterosexual world. There is also much detail about the way of life of homosexuals. THe reader
develops a sympathy for Callahan and his loss and his search for his missing partner.
