Evil Without A Face

by Jordan Dane

Seventeen-year-old Nikki Archer just wanted to get away from her alcoholic mother.  So, when she meets a young girl from Chicago, Ivana, in a chat room, she told her she needed to find a place to go.  Ivana told Nikki she thought her father could help, so she would talk to him.   Of course, her father said he could get modeling jobs for both of them and Nikki could stay with them until she got on her feet.  Arrangements were made and Nikki flew to Chicago.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, bounty hunter Jessica Becket was hot on the trail of one Lucas Baker, who Jessica knew was involved in a ring which kidnapped and sold young girls, luring them away from their families with lies and false promises.  Most were recruited from internet chat rooms.  She located him at a seedy hotel.  Baker escaped, but Jessica took his laptop.  Maybe her summer intern and computer wizard, Seth Harper, could pull enough incriminating evidence to put Baker away for good.

Once Nikki was found to be missing, her uncle, former pro football quarterback, Payton Archer, rushed to his sister's side.  He vowed to bring Nikki home safe and sound.

Evil Without A Face is an absorbing thriller of a teenage runaway who was all too willing to trust the wrong stranger.  The characters are fully human.  The plot, though plausible, has some twists which really stretched my imagination.  For the most part, I loved the book, and the end is chillingly possible.  If you love suspense, read this book.  Though the story is violent and the language is rough, your kids need to know this could happen to them.
