Harper Connelly has an unusual talent. After being struck by lightning when she was a young
teen, Harper discovered that she has the ability to step on someone’s grave and tell you who
they were and how they died. She has teamed up with her step-brother, Tolliver Lang, to travel
across the country and use her talents as a way to support them both and help others.
Harper and Tolliver are called to Texas by members of the wealthy Joyce family. The Joyce
sisters want to know exactly how their father died. While making her way to the grave, Harper
reads nearby graves and uncovers a secret that not everyone is happy with.
Since Harper and Tolliver are nearby, they decide to visit the younger sisters they rarely
see. The girls are being raised by an aunt and uncle. Upon arrival, Harper discovers that
Tolliver’s drug addict step-father is out of prison and trying to make amends with his family.
This brings up memories of Harper’s older sister, Cameron, who has been missing for many years,
and unearths secrets Harper thought she would never know the answers to.
Charlaine Harris is the author of Sookie Stackhouse, Aurora Teagarden and Lily Bard series,
along with the Harper Connelly series. I am an avid fan of the Harper Connelly Series and keep
meaning to try a book from one of the previous series. I love the way she develops character
and her books' sense of place.
