Brooklyn Wainwright attends a private showing of the most important book collection to open at the Covington
Library in San Francisco in years. The man responsible for the restoration of the rare antiquarian books on
exhibit is Abraham Karastovsky, Brooklyn's lifelong teacher and mentor. It had been six months since she had
seen or spoken to Abraham and things were going well between them until she found Abraham in his workstation,
bleeding to death from a wound to the chest. His last words to Brooklyn are "remember the devil" and he slips
her a cursed copy of Goethe's "Faust" for safekeeping.
Security Guard Derek Stone believes Brooklyn to be the killer of Abraham. Derek Stone, British Knight in
shining Armani, vows to Brooklyn that he will watch her like a hawk. Brooklyn is hired to take Abraham's place
in restoring the cursed "Faust" and while she is working on the book, another co-worker is found murdered. Again
Brooklyn is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two of the city's most prominent bookbinders have been brutally
murdered. Now it is up to Brooklyn to read the clues of this mystery correctly and stop this killer before they
strike again—especially since she has now become a target herself.
Booklovers will love Homicide in Hardcover. I found the tips
on book restoration interesting and enjoyed reading about Brooklyn's
job and her life growing up in a commune. Kate Carlisle is a top
notch author. Homicide in Hardcover is well-written, well-plotted,
and the characters are lifelike and a delight to spend time with.
Homicide in Hardcover is the first in the Bibliophile Mystery
Series—I look forward to the next in the series and spending
more time with the characters of this book.
