Ryan James was a minor league baseball player who was headed for the major leagues when
his wife, Chelsea, was killed by a hit and run driver. The driver was never found.
Now Ryan is a sportscaster on a local Boston radio station, trying to put his life
together while raising their six-year-old daughter. Prosecuting attorney Emma Carlisle
contacts him about an anonymous note sent to her on the third anniversary of Chelsea's
death. The note claims that the driver had intended to kill Chelsea. The writer claims to
know who did it. Ryan suspects that his brother-in-law "Babes," who suffers from
Asperger's Syndrome might know something. Suddenly Babes goes missing after calling the
station claiming he was the one who killed his sister.
The police, Ryan, and Emma are all searching for Babes, believing that he is in real
danger from the true killer. They are all in a race against time to find him first.
Intent to Kill is an excellent mystery with lots of suspense. There are many
twists and turns and red herrings to confuse the readers until the final confrontation.
The action is fast. The dialogue is crisp. The insight into the problems of one suffering
from Asperger's Syndrome is excellent.
