The King of Swords
The second book in the Max Mingus series
by Nick Stone
In The King of Swords, Detective Sergeant Max Mingus and his partner Joe Liston find themselves retracing
the footsteps of a man found dead in the Primate Park in Miami, Florida. When they get to the man's home what
they find is truly horrifying and leads them down a brutal path of more grisly murders, conspiracy, voodoo priests
and dark magic. To top it all off, their boss is pushing them to solve the case as quickly as possible, meaning
frame someone, at the behest of the "Turd Fairy," a clean up man for the big wigs at City Hall and in the Mayor's
office. Joe has his own ideas, however, when he asks Max to help him work the real case anyway.
This story is a raw and rough-around-the-edges tale of police sleuthing. It can be compared to the style of
policing done in the hit TV show series The Shield. If you enjoy that kind of policing, or just a good
old-fashioned, action-packed thriller, then this book is for you. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to
reading Nick Stone's first book, Mr.
Clarinet, as well. |
