Man in the Middle

by Brian Haig

Army Lieutenant Colonel Sean Drummond is assigned to figure out if a defense official’s death was murder or suicide. He is asked to work with an attractive Army military police officer, Bian Tran. Although investigating what appears to be a simple case, it ends up being much more complicated than Drummond could ever imagine. Drummond is pushed to the limit of what he believes, and is forced to look hard at himself and his beliefs.

The setting of War in Iraq is great for Man in the Middle. It gives great insight into Sean Drummond’s character and where he usually stands on things. Bian Tran’s character was well developed and what eventually happens with her character is unpredictable. However, some of the interactions between Drummond and Tran are expected. The mystery is well developed and not at all predictable. It leaves readers anticipating and wanting to keep reading to find out what happens

Man in the Middle is not overly military in nature, as several other military mystery novels are. Man in the Middle has the right balance between mystery, suspense, and military information.
