Abigail Washburn, proprietor of Den of Antiquity, an antique shop, had ordered a rosewood commode
from China as a birthday gift for her mother. When the container arrived at Charleston dockside it
contained, not a rosewood commode, but illegal ivory. When she went to the docks to pick up the commode
she was taken into custody by Federal agents, accused of trafficking in and smuggling in illegal ivory,
Her husband, Greg, a former detective now a shrimper, called her ex-husband, Buford Timberlake, now
one of the best lawyers in the state, with good old boy connections to arrange her release. Abigail is
cleared but is enraged by the situation. She determined to find the real ivory smugglers. In the
process she endangers herself and her mother before the final showdown.
Poison Ivory is a pleasant cozy mystery with plenty of humorous dialogue. The characters are
a mixed bag of zany, eccentric, feisty and comedic people. The interplay between Abigail and her mother
Mozella is spicy and witty.
Poison Ivory will help pass a few idle hours with little need for any thought... a very
simple, uneventful, unexciting story.
