Jessica Ford is sent by her boss, John Davenport, personal lawyer to First Lady Annette Cooper,
to meet the first lady at the Washington, D.C. hotel where she is at the bar, and get her out of
there before she is recognized. Jessica escorts her into the Lincoln that Davenport has sent. En
route to an unknown destination the car crashes and all occupants are killed except Jessica, who
didn't have time to fasten her seat belt and was thrown from the car.
She is found by Secret Service Agent Mark Ryan, in the undergrowth by the crash scene. She has
no recollection of the crash or the events leading to it. While she is recovering in the hospital
an attempt is made to kill her. She tells Ryan that she has no recollection of the events but is
having vague flashbacks which lead her to believe that the accident which killed the first lady
was no accident. She confidesd her suspicions to Ryan who had been part of the first lady's
protection. He knows that the first lady had a drug problem and is intent on trying to protect
her reputation.
Together Jess and Ryan try to piece together the events that lead to the crash while trying to
keep Jess alive. There seems to be no one they can trust. In fact at times Jess even doubts Ryan.
Pursuit is an action-packed political thriller with a great plot. The story captures the
reader's attention from the first chapter and holds it to the last page. The characters are
well-presented. Jess is a sympathetic, vulnerable but strong woman.
