Quilter's Knot
A Harriet Truman/Loose Threads Mystery, Book 2
by Arlene Sachitano
Quilter's Knot is the second book of the Harriet Truman / Loose Thread mystery series by Arlene Sachitano.
This story takes place a few months after
Quilt As Desired, and readers find machine quilter Harriet Truman participating in a week-long workshop
at the Angel Harbor Folk Art School in Washington state. But Harriet just can't seem to keep out of trouble. Soon,
she's called upon by fellow Loose Thread member, Lauren Sawyer, to find out why a copy of her original quilt design
was on display at a European gallery. Lauren has been accused of copying someone's designs before and this new
revelation sends her off the deep end. To make matters worse, Lauren accuses the school's owner Selestina
Bainbridge of copying that design and trying to profit from it. Soon, Harriet is neck-deep in an exotic poisoning,
attempts on her life, and rival romantic interest from two interesting men!
There are enough red herrings, miscommunications, and interesting characters for any cozy mystery lover here.
In keeping with the cozy mystery style, Sachitano has created a lively bunch of women in the Loose Thread quilting
group, and she slowly reveals more about their hidden talents and behaviors through each book. I really like this
group of women, though I'd like to brain a couple of them (and so would some of the other Loose Threads crew, too!).
But that's what is so real about these ladies. They could be in any group. If they were all perfect, I don't think
I'd like them very much.
Quilter's Knot not only offers a complex tangle for Harriet to unravel, but the book also presents a
lot of arcane quilting information as Sachitano puts readers into seats at the workshops as part of the action.
Sometimes, I felt as if I were auditing a class with Harriet. I'm hoping that Arlene Sachitano continues to
entertain us with these quilting mysteries. I can't wait for the next one! |
