The Secret Keeper

by Paul Harris

Danny Kellerman is a journalist at a local London newspaper.  He is following in his father’s footsteps. His biggest story will be how to get that story that stops the world and makes it take notice.

Sierra Leone, Africa, has a story to tell, and Danny decides to go and find out what it’s all about.  Diamonds are a girl’s best friend; unfortunately, the diamond trade is one of the deadliest.  Wars have been fought and lives have been lost, all in the name of the diamond.

When countries go to war, there are always those who are most affected, the children of war.  So much so that there is an organization called War Child that goes into countries where there is a need to help save our most valuable resource.  Maria Tirado is a missionary who works for the War Child organization and has for a number of years.  The two meet, and Danny finds the strong willed, wonderful woman that is Maria, and falls in love with all of her.  What he does not know is that Maria will not provide all of herself to him. Many secrets will still be hidden until a later time.

When things get tough in Sierra Leone, Danny is told to come back to London on the next flight out.  He complies.  Leaving Maria behind is the hardest thing he has ever done, but she won't leave with him.  Her work is here, and she has not completed her mission.

Years pass, and Danny moves on with his life. But, that all comes to a standstill on the day he receives a very cryptic message from Maria, "I am in trouble and I need your help, Danny. Please come as soon as you can."

Next flight out Danny lands in Sierra Leone only to find out that Maria has been killed in what first appears to be a car accident.  Danny uncovers a world and secrets that, until now, he never knew, and Maria was part of it all!
