Shot Girl
Annie Seymour Mystery series, book # 4
by Karen E. Olson
Shot Girl is the fourth book in Olson's outstanding Annie Seymour series and, sadly, appears to be the
finale to the series. While readers may be disappointed that the series in ending, they will certainly enjoy
Annie's final outing.
At the outset, Annie finds herself attending a bachelorette party that features a male strip revue. The
hilarity of the situation is quickly dampened by the discovery of a dead body outside the club hosting the party.
To make matters worse, the dead body is that of Annie's ex-husband and the bullets that were apparently used to
kill him match to the gun Annie had in her car. Everything goes from bad to worse in a hurry and the set-up for
the novel is skillfully done.
As in the previous Annie novels, nothing is as it seems on the surface and Annie immediately puts her
investigative journalistic skills to good use, pulling back each layer to uncover the truth about the death of
her ex-husband. The plot is tight and cohesive while managing to not be overly complicated. Olson does an
excellent job of grounding the story in reality and skillfully navigating the emotions that Annie must face in
dealing with her ex's death. The usual superb supporting cast adds depth to an already fine story. The
conclusion is more than satisfying, both for the individual novel and the series itself.
Olson will move on to a new character and new series later this year and if Shot Girl and her previous
three novels are any indication, readers will have something to get excited about. |
