Try Fear
A Ty Buchanan novel, No. 3

by James Scott Bell

Ty Buchanan lives in a trailer and provides free legal services at St Monica, a little Benedictine community. He defends a client, Carl Richess, who is fighting a DWI charge. When Carl was arrested he was dressed as a Santa Claus but just wearing a g-string. In court Ty beats the attractive prosecuting attorney and as a result she wants him to be her mentor. After Carl beats the conviction he is found dead, apparently a suicide. Police decide the reverse and arrest Carl's brother. He is innocent but is vague about his whereabouts and witnesses, Ty and his assistant, Sister Mary Veritas, investigate and uncover corruption in high places. Sister Mary receives threatening emails and then receives a gun shot meant for Ty.

Ty finds himself attracted to his brilliant investigator while Sister Mary begins to question her vocation.

Try Fear is an excellent, well written murder mystery combined with an appealing love story. The community of St Monica presents a wide variety of characters, some of whom make this entertaining to read. The combination of lawyer and Catholic nun as his sidekick shows how two different people can work together.
