Valley of the Lost is the second in the Constable Molly Smith mysteries series. Valley of the Lost is
a well-written mystery novel with in-depth character development, making it a top notch mystery to read. I very
much enjoyed reading Valley of the Lost and found the plot to be well-developed and intriguing. The
characters were enjoyable and I look forward to the next Constable Molly Smith book in the series.
Constable Molly Smith has been with the Trafalgar, British Columbia Police Department for about a year and
is still considered a rookie cop. Having lost her fiancé Graham recently, Molly is struggling with moving on
with her life and beyond the grieving process.
Lucy (Lucky) Smith works at the women's center and while walking to her car one evening after work hears a baby
crying in the nearby woods. When Lucky goes into the woods she finds the woman known as Ashley Doe, dead. It is
determined on autopsy that Ashley died from a heroin overdose, with restraint marks found on her wrists and ankles
suggesting that it hadn't been entirely of her own volition.
Lucky takes in the baby (Miller Doe), to care for him until Ashley's family can be found. Ashley seemingly had
no past, not much of a present, and no future. If the Trafalgar Police Department can't figure out who Ashley
really was how will they figure out who killed her?
