White Cargo
by Stuart Woods
White Cargo was actually a book that I enjoyed reading and it was better than the
others by this author I have reviewed. Woods takes on the drug cartels and the Mexican Mafioso,
but they are only semi dealt with, as in sort of real people, but not nearly as real as what we
are seeing in today’s climate. Woods’ character is a guy who is a millionaire named "Cat"
Catledge. His wife and daughter are kidnapped during a piracy scheme by the drug kingpins, and
supposedly sent out to sea on a boat and killed. But his daughter Jinx is alive and sends him
a phone call, which starts the typical chase and involvement with all sorts of shady types and
law enforcement agencies that Cat tries very hard to ride herd on so that his daughter comes
home safely. They all work really hard to make it happen and there is a great rescue. It is a
fast paced mystery that sort of seems tame by today’s standards and what is really happening
down in that territory and area close to our own southern border.
Actually, this was a good read and I would recommend it, mostly because it touches a problem
that is growing by leaps and bounds every week and America will have to get into stopping it
pretty soon. This book was written a long time ago (1989) and is very timely, now. Maybe he
knew something then and tried to warn us?? |
