Capitol Offense
Ben Kincaid book 17

by William Bernhardt

What do you do when a client comes to you and requests you defend him for a crime he has yet to commit? That's the dilemma facing attorney Ben Kincaid when Professor Dennis Thomas walks into his law office and proclaims he wants the lawyer to help him beat a murder charge.

The professor's intended victim is a Tulsa cop who refused to take Thomas' missing person's request seriously. Joslyn Thomas had not returned home and her husband wanted the police to do something, but they took a wait-and-see attitude. Subsequently, it was discovered that the woman lay trapped in the twisted wreckage of her car for seven days and died a horrifically slow death.

Insane with grief, Thomas wants revenge on Detective Christopher Sentz, the man who refused to authorize a search. Kincaid warns the professor not to do anything rash, but that same day Sentz is gunned down. Although he claims he wasn't responsible for the killing, the professor now really does need Kincaid to defend him.

Against his colleagues' advice, the attorney takes the case and ends up at the center of a media and political firestorm. With the trial heading towards a verdict of "guilty", Kincaid enlists the help of his personal private investigator to do some digging to see if he can find anything.

What emerges is a new narrative about not only Detective Sentz but also the professor's dead wife. And once Pandora's Box is open, no one, including Kincaid, is going to get the lid back on again!

Ben Kincaid already has appeared in 16 legal thrillers and this latest addition to the long-running series is as much a gripping tale of suspense as its predecessors. If you enjoy plenty of surprises and non-stop heart-thumping action, this is a novel you'll relish reading.
