Cat Striking Back
Joe Grey Mystery, #15

by Shirley Rousseau Murphy

Joe Grey, Dulcie and Kit are back in their latest accidental mystery. The three adorable cats' latest adventure began with a simple errand of mercy. They’d found a neighbor’s cat, Mango, locked out of her house and away from her tiny kittens. They got Mango back to her kittens and Dulcie decided that, since Mango was still nursing the kittens, she needed more nourishment than her kibble would provide. Therefore, the three speaking cats went mouse hunting for their confined neighbor.

Joe, the biggest and strongest of the three, was on his way to Mango with half a dozen live mice, when he stumbled onto what appeared to be a murder scene. He wanted to call the police immediately, but the mice, though unconscious, could get away if he put them down. He was carrying them by their tails and one regained consciousness while he investigated the scene.

At Mango’s house, Joe called the police, telling Detective Juana Davis about the murder scene. Then he went back to where he had found the evidence in an empty swimming pool behind a vacant house. Unfortunately, the killer had gotten there before the police. Most of the evidence had been washed away. Was there enough left to catch a killer? Could they even find the victim’s body?

Cat Striking Back is a story that keeps you reading. From beginning to end, Joe Grey charms his way through another major crime. Much to the distress of his owner, he gets involved even though he has misgivings about the case. One of the people they know is a killer. Somewhere, one of the vacationing wives is missing. All of the husbands checked in when their homes were burglarized, another twist in a pretzel of a plot. If you love cats and mysteries, you’ll adore the Joe Grey series. Read them all!
