Death of a Poison Pen
Hamish Macbeth - Book XIX
by M C Beaton
Somebody is writing malicious poison pen letters to the good folk in Lochdubh, and Hamish
Macbeth is determined to get to the bottom of it. Before he can do this local postmistress
Miss Beattie is found hanging with one of the letters beneath her feet. It looks like suicide,
but canny Hamish thinks otherwise. He soon finds himself sent off with Daviot’s blessing to
discover who the culprit is, and uncovers a lot more trouble than even he bargained for.
After the last somewhat disparate offering, this fine series is back
on track once more with a good plot. Hamish also has a new love
interest—or rather a new woman called Jenny Ogilvie is chasing
him. Jenny works at the same City computer company as Priscilla,
and after hearing all about this Highland Adonis is keen to take
up where her friend left off. Add in rival and reporter Elspeth
Grant and various other plot strands, and it all adds up to an excellent
yarn with a conclusion that I certainly did not expect. Hooray for
Hamish!
