Double Cross
A Taylor Pasbury novel, No. 2

by James David Jordan

Former Secret Service agent Taylor Pasbury has her own security agency in Dallas, Texas. She gained her experience in firearms and defensive tactics from her Special Forces father who raised her as a single parent. Her mother had abandoned them when Taylor was nine.

Her former client and mentor, Simon Mason of the Simon Mason World Ministries, wasn killed by terrorists and Taylor has assumed the care of his daughter, Kacey. Kacey has taken control of her father's ministries and in an audit finds that his trusted assistant, Elise Hovden, has allegedly been embezzling from the ministry.

When Taylor and Kacey go to Elise's home to confront her they find her in her garage dead, apparently a suicide. Taylor has reason to believe this is not a suicide and sets out to learn the truth. In the course of her investigations, attempts are made to kill the reporter who has been looking into the case. To add to her problems Taylor's mother suddenly appears in her life after having abandoned her as a child. She is now married for the third time and is trying to reestablish their relationship. Taylor and Kacey follow a trail of danger and deceit to the final solution.

Double Cross is a story full of suspense and mystery with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Taylor is a tough girl with lots of flaws and with a sense of responsibility and a feeling of resentment toward her mother. The relationship between Taylor and her mother is a large part of the plot. They have to work out their problems as Taylor has been seeking redemption for her failure to prevent Simon's death. She finally learns that to forgive is the divine path to redemption.

This Christian message in the final pages is the moral of the story.
