Gator A-Go-Go
Serge Storms Mystery, No 12

by Tim Dorsey

Serge A. Storm may be a psychopath, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand history, particularly the long lost history of his beloved state of Florida. Armed with a camcorder and his twisted philosophy, Serge sets out to create the best documentary on Florida's spring break history. Serge befriends a group of college students and continues his role of elaborate executioner of unfortunate scum who "deserve" their prolonged and gruesome deaths. Police officers discover few clues from his handiwork: twisted, sliced bodies in MacGyver-type engineered deaths. His companion Coleman has his own life philosophy, which requires being stoned, drunk, or some combination. Coleman finds a new entourage in their group of students, who idolize Coleman’s practical party advice, like how to keep beer cold without a cooler. For one of the kids, Andy, partying is the least of his concerns. He’s a lone duck trying to reunite with his father and to connect safely with an FBI witness protection agent. One problem? He doesn’t realize the drug dealing Madre gang is also looking for him. Serge decides he is Andy’s only hope. After all, it’s a killer’s game, and Serge knows all the players. Can Serge stay ahead of lawless criminals, shady law enforcers, hot chicks, and drunk students, without getting caught for a string of bizarre murders? How can he get all this done while finishing his amazing documentary?

Author Tim Dorsey writes a humor-filled, violent crime story in Gator A-Go-Go. Dorsey expertly weaves Florida facts and lore into a twisted plot, fitting for an eccentric Floridian lifestyle. Readers will stay riveted to the characters, as Dorsey keeps us guessing and laughing. The violence includes several one-of-a-kind death scenes, and multiple plot twists increase the conflict tenfold. It can be hard to keep track of all the characters and subplots, but it’s worth the effort. Gator A-Go-Go is my first journey with Dorsey’s characters, and it’s a hilarious ride. I look forward to more sprees with Serge and Coleman.
