Going Gone
A Gail McCarthy Mystery, No 11

by Laura Crum

Going Gone by Laura Crum is the latest book in the Gail McCarthy (horse vet) mystery series. It was interesting how she explored a person’s ability to come to grips with a loved one’s death, whether a friend, relative, or animal.

The book’s main plot is about Gail’s desire to investigate the murder of two local auctioneers and clear her old boyfriend, Lonny Peterson. At times the book seemed to drag with unneeded dialogue which added too much detail. For example, in one scene Gail comments, "I had no real idea what the protocol was when you were arrested for murder. Thankfully, this had never happened to me."

Overall it would have been better if there were more suspenseful events which would have contributed to a better pace. With that said, it is a good read, especially for those who like to gain knowledge about California’s landscapes and horses.
