I have read every one of J.D. Robb's books from the first book in her "Death" series. I
love Eve and Roark. This latest is by far one of my favorites. The pace is constant, the
suspense all you could wish for, and the romance between Eve, the cop, and Roark, the rich
former thief, is still touching. The sexual exploits between these two remain off the charts
when it comes to heat.
Eve is enjoying one of her first holidays without a case—that is until the last day
of their stay-at-home, make-love time together. A young girl has been brutally raped and
murdered, and her police captain father requests that Eve be the primary officer assigned to
the case. The crime scene reminds her of her own brutal childhood, and makes her more
determined than ever to take down the perp.
While Eve is working this crime, she is tagged for a second murder—the same mode of
operation as the first. She beats herself up because she can't catch a break on the case.
When several strands of information result in a suspect she begins to unravel the cord that
will ultimately lead her to the killer. Right when she's got him boxed in, two officers jump
the gun and he gets away scot-free. Now she’s up against a deadline, another victim’s demise
is imminent and Eve once again baits a trap to catch the murderer.
