Lauren Walsh had everything. Then her husband left her for a woman he met on the commuter
train. To make matters worse, she lives in a small suburb of New York City where everybody
knows everybody’s business and it seems they are all talking about her.
Lauren is trying to deal with the heartbreak and hold life together for her three children.
The youngest, Sadie, seems to be having the worst time. So when Sadie leaves behind a beloved
stuffed animal at the train station in New York City, Lauren shames her husband into checking
the lost and found and returning the animal.
But Lauren’s husband, Nick, is not paying very much attention and picks up the wrong animal
and delivers the bait for a cold-blooded killer right to his family’s back door.
Add in a ruthless politician who would do anything to keep an old secret, plus a family that
is still grieving for the loss of a child who was kidnapped 14 years ago, and you have a
roller-coaster ride that takes no breaks.
Wendy Corsi Straub is a well-known writer with a knack for building characters and driving
the tension up just one more notch. I found myself picking this book up when I really had other
things I needed to be doing. The final pages were a task in that I had to keep reminding myself
to breath, and best of all, I discovered that this book is number one in a trilogy. Great!
