Murder
in La-la Land
A Sisters in Crime Los Angeles anthology
Edited by Naomi Hiraham, Eric Stone, Juliet Blackad
This anthology includes 12 murderous stories by outstanding authors
of the Sisters in Crime Los Angeles. There are famous Los Angeles
sites from Golden Globes awards ( "Death is Golden" by
Jude McGee) to the Los Angeles River ("Hobo Joe" by Terri
Nolan) to the bygone black jazz clubs ( "Beethoven's Last Chorus"
by Joe Macby). The characters include a detective who gets to communicate
with the dead to street musicians to visions of vampires ("Continental
Tilt" by Paul D Marks). These stories portray the underbelly
of LA society beneath the surface mostly unseen by tourists.
This
anthology presents famous Los Angeles sites as background for a
variety of stories. Some are better than others but all are enjoyable
to read. They have depth and are all well written giving a glimpse
of the many facets of this city. All stories give a sense of the
wackiness of Los Angeles and a look into the world of its diverse
population.
