The Reversal

By Michael Connelly

Michael Connelly's new novel should be another number one bestseller. His latest book, The Reversal, has a fast-paced, intriguing plot about a defense lawyer who changes hats to become a prosecuting attorney. The story begins when the main character, Mickey Haller, is asked to lead the prosecution team for a re-trial of a convicted child killer. The killer feels he will be exonerated because of new DNA evidence. Through Connelly’s descriptive scenes, readers feels that they are part of the jury, being able to examine the evidence presented.

The characters are very well developed. Beside Haller, there is Connelly fans’ favorite hero, Harry Bosch. Also, making a cameo appearance is Rachel Walling, the FBI profiler who has worked with Bosch in past cases. A central theme throughout many of Connelly’s books is having his protagonists speak for the victims of horrific crimes, which is also the case in this book. Through the character’s eyes, the reader is able to sympathize with the victims and their families.

This novel is very insightful into how the legal system works. The story is suspenseful, engrossing, and a quick read.
