Tombstone Courage
Joanna Brady Series, No 2

by J.A. Jance

Another Brady Novel of Suspense and I was not disappointed.

After her her husband's murder. Joanna Brady runs for and is elected Sheriff of Cochise County. This book shows how this new office will transform Joanna into a sheriff her late husband Andy would be proud of.  As long as she can keep her young daughter Jenny on her side, with the support of her in-laws, along with whatever support she gets from her own mother, Joanna will get in tune with what needs to be done.

Bisbee, Arizona is a small town where everyone knows who you are, who you are dating and what little secrets you are trying to hide.  When Harold Patterson's estranged daughter Holly comes back to town after being away more than thirty years, people begin to wonder why.  The tale that comes from her mouth is one that no one in town believes. They know Harold and they knew his late wife and both daughters: Holly, and her sister, Ivy. Who would ever believe that Harold could do such a thing to his oldest daughter?  While trying to prove his innocence, his life is shortened by an accident and then ultimately by a misdeed.

The first cases Joanna must solve involve a double murder, with Harold one of the victims. Are the two cases connected and is one person responsible for both?

Adding to her problems, Joanna is the first woman elected as sheriff in the state of Arizona, which means dealing with issues arising out of male pride.

My suggestion to you, if you read any or all of the books in this series, make sure to read them in order.  Their storyline will make better sense that way and you can follow the highly controversial new sheriff's growth and dedication to this new life, which ties in with why she ran for the office in the first place.
