Washington, D.C. Police Chief Beth Perry gets her younger sister Mace out of prison two
days early. Mace has served two years for a crime she didn't commit. A police officer, she
had been seized by bandits, drugged and taken along on a series of armed robberies. She had
been called "the Patty Hearst of the 21st century". Now she is determined to prove her
innocence and become a "true blue" once again. She will try to do that by solving the high
profile case of the rape-murder of Diana Tolliver, whose body was discovered in the office
refrigerator by young lawyer Ray Kingman. Mace teams up with Kingman in the search of the
murderer, even though this is a violation of her parole.
Mace must also must fight against Mona Danforth, now U.S. attorney in D.C., who hates her.
Beth must solve the case of a prominent U.S. attorney killed by the F.B.I. She must battle
against a stonewall set up by the federal government. Together they uncover secrets involving
the national security.
David Balducci has once again written a compelling book. The plot is an intricate one with
fast action. The characters are well presented, with human feelings and flaws. Balducci can
always be depended upon to keep his readers in constant suspense.
This would seem to be the first in a series. We look forward to the next.
