The quiet tenure
of the Fairchilds' lives is suddenly disrupted by the discovery
by an independent audit of the Ministers Discretionary Fund of the
Aleford First Parish Church shows $10,000 unaccounted for. The audit
was demanded by Sherman Munroe, a new member of the Vestry. Suspicion
falls on Faith's husband, Tom. Reverend Tom is the only person who
has access to the account. Faith is determined to clear her husband's
name.
In the meantime
Faith becomes involved with Ursula Rowe, Faith's friend Pix Miller's
elderly ailing mother. Ursula has asked for Faith's help in dealing
with disquieting letters she has been receiving hinting at revelations
of her past life. She recounts the story of an unsolved crime dating
back to 1929 and the Great Depression. While she is telling her
story, her daughter Pix is attending the wedding of her son where
she meets unsettling remembrances of her past.
The Body
in the Gazebo is a pleasant moving story yet filled with suspense.
We meet again many of the characters of the previous books and follow
the paths their lives are taking. The tale Ursula tells presents
an evocative picture of lives in the 30's.
A thoroughly
enjoyable book.
Note:
As usual Faith includes some of her tempting culinary recipes.
Rum cake! Breakfast puffs! Yum! Yum!
