In the Village
of Drim, Pete Ray cleans chimneys the old fashion way. When he arrives
at the cottage of a new couple in the village the husband leaves
acting quite odd and the wife escapes to make human contact with
others in the village. Later the wife, Milly, returns to witness
a loud thump followed by a body falling out of the chimney into
her living room. When the Superintendent tries to close the case
quickly Hamish MacBeth follows the clues and shows foul play. The
Superintendent doesn’t take it well. If not for his friend
and co-worker James, Hamish would be unemployed. The two play tag
team throughout the case.
The author
takes many directions in the storyline - including international
- and fills it with multiple victims and suspects. Dear Hamish is
under pressure, in disguise, and torn between two woman. He works
diligently to protect the Village of Drim, the victim’s spouse
and those he cares for. He also spends time with Elspeth and Priscilla
while saving face with the public after a book comes out putting
him in a romantic light with another village woman.
In this popular
series readers learn that in Scotland, one’s intuition is
taken very serious, these quaint Scottish villages have a way of
protecting themselves, and justice prevails -- naturally or otherwise.
Another winner
in a long-running, always popular series.
