Baily Ruth Raeburn died in a boating accident with her husband.
She’s crossed over and up to Heaven and has been assigned
as a special emissary in the Department of Good Intentions to help
people in need, and to ferret out evil-doers so that justice is
served.
In this third outing of the Baily Ruth mystery series, she is sent
back to her hometown of Adelaide, Oklahoma, and finds herself in
the somewhat awkward position of having to help one of her old enemies.
Baily Ruth has a hard time following the Precepts for Earthly Visitation,
but always sets forth with the best of intentions.
Her mission is to save Kay Clark, who really doesn’t want
Baily Ruth’s help at all, and is shocked by her being there
and finding it hard to believe she’s “real.” There’s
a killer afoot, and Baily Ruth has to act before he or she kills
again.
Author Carolyn Hart once again gifts her loyal readers and fans
with an outstanding story, a well thought out mystery and delightful
characters. Relationships between people in the book are not always
what they seem to be, as is often the case in real life. The ghost
element is actually comforting because Baily Ruth is more of an
Angel than a ghost, and remains very much a lady. She is enthralled
by clothes and changes her outfits as often as possible. There is
a great deal of humor sprinkled throughout the tale, and enough
twists and turns to keep even seasoned mystery readers guessing
as to who the killer is and why.
Fans of Carolyn Hart’s other series, “Death
on Demand”
and “Henrie
O”
will find that they crave more in this series too. You certainly
do not have to read Ghost
at Work or
Merry, Merry Ghost to enjoy this book, but I’m
so confident you will love the series that I recommend you go ahead
and treat yourself to all three. The set would also make a wonderful
holiday gift for the avid readers on your gift list.
