Cozy Mystery

Since her Uncle Oscar
passed away, Rebecca has taken over his antique store, the Green
Vasein San Francisco. Sales are not plentiful, so she depends upon
Rupert the Cat to find hidden packs of money that uncle Oscar hid
around his apartment. Rupert's latest find is a toy bear holding
a paper flag reading "Nevada City."
Rebecca thinks this
is a clue to Oscar's hidden treasure, which his arch enemy, Frank
Napis, is also anxious to find. Napis had almost killed her trying
to find the treasure. Rebecca and the cats, Rupert and Isabella,
and her nosy neighbor, Monty, head for Nevada City, where she finds
another bear with a sign "Sutters Fort." This leads to
a trip around the state while she now evades the men who are trying
to kill her.
This is a fast
paced cozy mystery. It is filled with humor and fraught with danger.
There are colorful characters, but the most intriguing are Rupert
and Isabella, the cats. In addition to an enjoyable readable story,
there is a history lesson about early California and a not well
known California Bear Flag Revolt.
