Honor Gillette
is trying to get on with her life after being widowed by a horrific
car accident that claimed the life of her spouse a year earlier.
Her husband was a policeman for the local force. His death left
her with a beautiful and precocious four-year-old daughter and a
lovely home that is rather isolated on the bayous in Louisiana.
Honor is busy making her cupcakes to celebrate the birthday of her
father-in-law when her daughter informs her that there is an injured
man in the front yard. Little does Honor know that the injured man
is Lee Coburn, the prime focus of a manhunt resulting from the murder
of seven people in a local warehouse the previous night.
Before the tale is told, Honor will not know whether to doubt the
close police friends of her dead husband or the hard-hearted accused
killer that has taken her and her daughter captive and set them
on the run from the very people that Honor trusts most.
The story takes
place in the Louisiana bayous and swamps, one of my favorite settings
for an eerie-type mystery. Believe it or not this is one of the
few Sandra Brown books I have read. I had the preconceived notion
that they were romance novels, something I generally steer clear
of. This book proved me wrong. The story was very strong and suspenseful
and held my attention all the way through.
It looks like
a Sandra Brown fan has been born. |
