Hawk receives a phone call from his old friend,
His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, who informs him that information
has been uncovered that someone is targeting the British royal family
for assassination which had started earlier with the assassination
of Charles' uncle, Lord Montbatten. He asks Hawk to investigate.
Hawk joins forces with Ambrose Congreve, former chief inspector
of Scotland Yard. All clues point to the IRA and a mysterious killer
known as Mr. Smith. They find Mr. Smith linked to the killing of
Montbatten, the great fire in Windsor Castle, the death of Lady
Diana and Dodi Fayed in the Paris tunnel, and Taliban bombings.
They must race against time to uncover Mr. Smith and discover the
reason for his actions and stop him before he can fulfill his revenge.
This is a thriller adventure story. The dialogue
is light and breezy and natural, the characters are well developed.
Hawk is a dynamic James Bond, resourceful, fearless, faithful to
his friends. The exciting plot is full of action and suspense and
danger.
This is the
first Hawk novel I have read. I lost no time in acquiring the past
ones in the series and hope there are more to come.
