Sometimes, an author is so good his work is reprinted
every few years so another new generation can enjoy it. Jim Thompson
is one of those authors. He was the leader in the dark mystery genre,
perhaps ahead of his time.
The Killer
Inside Me is set in the small town of Central City, Texas.
Deputy Sheriff Lou Ford had been born and raised there. He now worked
as a deputy sheriff there and had never even been out of the county.
Thus, he didn·t really know what to do when the sheriff told
him to go pay a visit to a prostitute. All the sheriff told him
to do was use his own judgment as to whether he should run her out
of town, arrest her or just give her a warning.
Ford didn't
use good judgment. He gave her a few self-defense punches when she
attacked him, gave her a warning and left. Later, attracted by Joyce·s
beauty, Lou went back to visit Joyce and was soon seeing her on
a regular basis. That's when the trouble started and people began
to die.
What would
it be like to have a cold-blooded killer inside you, that you knew
could overpower your real self at any time until it is through killing?
Even as you get control of it, you know it will be back. The
Killer Inside Me explores this dark side of human nature. It
is well-written and keeps you guessing until the end. I can't say
the characters are ordinary people, because they obviously aren't.
How they blend in with the others and appear to be solid citizens
above reproach is truly amazing. So grab a copy of The Killer
Inside Me and be ready to spend a spine-chilling evening.
