Private investigator Sam Blackman and his partner, Nakayla Robertson,
are tracking Professor Janice Wainwright who is suing a surgeon
for malpractice. They are to catch her in activities that will negate
her claims. They follow the professor to Connemora, Carl Sandburg's
home in Flat Rock, North Carolina, and find her unconscious on the
mountain, her dying words:The Sandburg verses. Sam, as the person
finding the body, becomes a person of interest. It is now necessary
to prove his innocence.
A break-in of the Wainwright home and the theft of some of Sandburg
volumes lead Sam in the search and the reason for her murder. Sam
and Nakayla search for a missing folk song which is unpublished
and invaluable.
The author - - in addition to giving a well-plotted mystery with
humor and banter - - has given us a wealth of information about
Carl Sandburg's life and the time of his life on the farm. There
is a blend of fact and fiction with much historical detail.
