Author Kate White is
also the Editor-in-Chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, and many women
hang on her every word-and with good reason. White is a prolific
author with a natural talent for writing New York Times bestselling
novels.
Bailey Weggins, the
protagonist, is also a journalist and hopes to be a writer herself.
She's smart and sassy and lives life to the fullest. When her boyfriend,
Beau Regan, heads out of town for a weekend, Bailey decides to do
the same. Her friend, Jessie, invites her to tag along to a getaway
at the country home of a famous music executive. There is tension
in the air at the country house, and it seems to revolve around
super-model Devon Barr. The model is nervous and even tells Bailey
that she doesn't feel safe and needs to leave.
When Barr is found murdered,
Bailey starts snooping to bring the killer down. Yet the way things
are going, it could just as easily be Bailey who is brought down
by the murderer.
So Pretty
It Hurts is a really good book. Bailey is funny and adventuresome,
with brains and class to spare. The mystery is clever and the clues
creative. If you have read previous books in this series, you'll
want to read this and savor it. It's been quite a while since the
last entry; Lethally Blonde, was published in 2007. White
also writes thrillers, including The Sixes and Hush.
