Maxie Pierce and her half-sister Sylvia have taken over the running of Texas Jack Pierce’s business. Jack has been missing for weeks and Maxie thinks it is the best way to locate him by following the chili cook-off trail. Right now they are in New Mexico and the Taos Chili Showdown will help the business and maybe find some clues as to where Jack went. First Maxie has to dump latest boyfriend - Roberto. She runs into him and they have a huge fight which is heard by all. Not only that, it was probably filmed by the advance man of celebrity chef Carter Donnelly.

When Cater arrives, Maxie and Sylvia want him to taste their homemade chili. What happens is that instead of eating it – Carter ends up wearing the chili. Maxie volunteers to get another shirt from his trailer. Finally, Maxie opens the trailer door, out falls a very dead Roberto. The security chief Nick Falcone thinks that Maxie is the prime suspect. Which means the police will soon be charging her with murder. Maxie better be very careful if she plans on catching the killer, because as you know those peppers can get mighty hot!

Things to ponder: Who is Crazy Karmen and why is she looking for Maxie? How did Roberto end up in Carter Donnelly’s trailer/dressing room? Will Maxie start smoking again? Where is Texas Jack Pierce?

I am always excited when I find a new book by Kylie Logan. To not only find a new book but a new series is heaven. She draws you right into the story and you can’t help but read the book to the very end. Sorry Rufus – your walk will have to wait a bit. This is a fun fast-paced read. There are plenty of suspects and ribs---I mean red herrings to keep you guessing until the end. So if you like your mystery hot and spicy then you should be reading Chili con Carnage.
