Trixie Matowski is looking forward
to taking over the Silver Bullet Diner and the other properties
she bought from her Aunt Stella. It will be a new start for
her after her divorce and losing her job. Sandy Harbor, NY
was the place Trixie and her family went for vacations when
she was a kid. While she loved to cook and had all the family
recipes, could she handle the business side of things? Would
it become too hot to handle?
Right away she finds out that Juanita, the morning cook,
seems to quit her job daily. The other cook was out sick.
Guess who would be filling his shifts…if you guessed
Trixie you got it in one. Trixie does head home for a bit
to rest and go through the bag of mail given to her by Nancy,
a waitress at the Silver Bullet. She finds a notice from the
Health Dept. – Bureau of Restaurant Inspections that
a follow–up inspection would be held that very same
day! It seems there were a few small violations that needed
to be fixed. As Trixie rushes back to the restaurant she sees
an ambulance, fire truck and police cars in front of the Silver
Bullet Diner. Marvin Cogswell III, who happens to be the health
inspector, is lying face down in the daily special.
Trixie thinks it must be a heart attack. Deputy Ty Brisco
seems to think otherwise. He even thinks he might have a suspect
in Trixie because of the violations. Trixie needs to find
the killer to keep the Silver Bullet running. She needs to
be careful or she could end up cooking her own goose.
Things to ponder: Does someone want the point properties
so badly that they would frame Trixie for murder? Where did
the mushrooms come from?
This is the first book in a new series that I hope will be
around for a long time. It was such a fun read. It had me
laughing and at the edge of my seat. The author knows how
to plot a great mystery. I loved the characters and can’t
wait to see what will be happening in the next book in the
series called A Second Helping of Murder which will
be out in April 2014. So if you like your mystery filled with
great recipes (which this book has), then you should be reading
Do or Diner.
