White
House executive chef Olivia Paras and her Secret Service boyfriend,
Gav, are on vacation and visiting Ollie’s mom and nana
in Chicago. The only thing Ollie wants to know is what really
happened to her father. This time her mother supplies the
answers. Anthony Paras was dishonorably discharged from the
Army for insubordination. After that he worked for a company
called Pluto Inc. and rose to be one of the vice presidents.
A guy at work was causing him a lot of trouble. Soon after,
Olivia’s father was shot to death – the police
said it was a robbery gone wrong. The company paid for the
funeral and helped the family with moving expenses to Chicago.
They also started a trust fund for Ollie. Several months later,
the company claimed that Tony Paras was selling corporate
secrets to other companies.
Ollie and her mom do not believe any of this is true. Time
for Ollie to harness her inner Nancy Drew and get this mystery
solved. Finding out the answers could still get people hurt.
With Gav at her side, anything could happen.
Things to ponder: How does a dishonorably discharged serviceman
end up buried in Arlington Cemetery? Was Tony set up by another
employee? What exactly was Tony doing for the US government?
Will Josh get his wish and go to the Food Expo?
This is a fast-paced mystery. Besides having many layers and
plot lines, it is just fun to see the inner workings of the
White House. I love the characters and how they interact with
each other. I hope to see more of Ollie and company in many
more books. So if you like your mystery with a touch of history,
then Fonduing Fathers is the book for you.
